The 2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

The Highlander Hybrid is a so-called crossover SUV, meaning it's built more like a car than a truck.  It was completely redesigned in 2008, and is bigger and better than ever.  Toyota created a new manufacturing program to increase overall quality of its vehicles called Customer First. The Highlander was the first vehicle to benefit from the program, which includes additional prototypes, additional quality control personal, and a renewed focus on product quality.  As a result, the Highlander Hybrid offers a quiet cabin and a luxurious ride quality.

The Highlander Hybrid is available in an all-wheel drive configuration only, with two trim levels: Base and 2009 Toyota Highlander HybridLimited.  Hybrid models keep the same 270-hp gas/electric power train as the 2005-07 models. The hybrid also provides smooth, plentiful power. The hybrid powertrain is rated at 27/25 mpg City/Highway. While the EPA ratings are not as good as those of the 2007 model (rated 31/27 mpg), fuel economy from the 2008 Highlander is slightly better in real-world driving. EPA test procedures have changed for 2008 models and now are closer to what consumers can expect to get.  Hybrid Synergy Drive, the system used in this vehicle, mates the 3.3-liter V6 with three electric motors to make 270 hp as well. The transmission is a continuously variable automatic that constantly adjusts gearing ratios instead of changing gears.

Standard safety features include anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, electronic vehicle stability and traction control systems, active anti-whiplash front head restraints, front side-impact airbags and overhead curtain airbags for all rows. Hybrid-related components are backed by an 8-year/100,000 mile warranty.  The 2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid has an improved cabin with great convenience.  The second row can slide forward and back, and the third-row seat changes from an afterthought to a space capable of carrying both children and adults. Getting in and out of the first two rows is easy, and Toyota provides both a walkthrough and a fold and slide forward second-row seat to ease access to the third row.  For cargo space, the second- and third-row seats fold flat to open up a very useful 95.4 cubic feet.  Either the center console or the center seat can be stowed beneath the front seat center console.   The available separate opening rear glass is a nice convenience, and the load height is low for an SUV, making it easier to load groceries, duffle bags, and other cargo.

The Toyota Highlander Hybrid is based on the popular Highlander SUV, boasting a more environmentally-friendly gas-electric hybrid engine that delivers excellent fuel economy and lower emissions, particularly in the stop-and-go traffic of major metros.  The Highlander Hybrid makes a perfect choice for a family car , as it offers both convenience, cargo space, and passenger space that a family needs, and a fuel economy that has an environmentally friendly approach.
